RedesignEd works on the conditions that make innovation possible and sustainable—helping school district communities and their postsecondary, business, and civic partners build a deep bench of leaders from classrooms to boardrooms who can drive and sustain system transformation. We support districts in developing a shared vision, aligning structures and practices around deeper learning, and measuring and uplifting results in ways that reposition the public good in public education for students, families, educators, and industry. Our work documents where effective system features already exist and guides communities in assembling the remaining pieces, using evidence‑based tools to create customized operational playbooks for redesign. We also help build a coherent human‑capital ecosystem across K–12, postsecondary, and workplace mentors, and strengthen monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems to assess impact. Ultimately, entire communities—not just schools and districts—must become the unit of change, embedding innovation into their collective DNA so transformation becomes lasting rather than episodic.

California Collaborative Educational Excellence (CCEE) California Secondary School Redesign Program Pilot: The Secondary School Redesign Pilot Program is designed to support California middle and high schools in transforming learning environments from factory model institutions to rich student-centered environments that develop strong relationships, and drive deep learning ready to be applied to complex, real-world challenges. RedesignEd’s seven participating districts strive to achieve the following outcomes:

• System Outcomes:  Assess enabling conditions for scalable transformation. Evidence includes sustainability plans, cross‑LEA partnerships, and policy insights that inform statewide redesign. Wel also track how district structures, resources, and roles evolve to support site‑level innovation so system change becomes embedded rather than episodic.

• School Outcomes:  Develop and monitor site level metrics focus on improvements in climate, belonging, and family engagement using validated surveys aligned with the California Healthy Kids Survey and CCSPP indicators. We monitor opportunity‑to‑learn conditions—students feeling known, supported, connected, and engaged—and assess inclusive, culturally responsive classroom practices. Family engagement are captured through participation data, empathy interviews, and voice surveys that elevate authentic community feedback.

• Student Outcomes:  Using next generation models to assess student engagement, achievements and durable skills to influence classroom instruction.

Loyola Marymount University (LMU) School of Education Secondary School Redesign Institute: Loyola Marymount University plays a significant role in California’s secondary school redesign landscape through its School of Education, which has long focused on equity‑centered school transformation, community‑based learning, and preparing leaders for high‑needs schools. Working with LMU, RedesignEd lends our thought leadership and advisory services to develop a Secondary School Redesign Institute to empower educators in redesign research, leadership development, and innovative school models, especially for youth facing the greatest barriers.

Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD) Anaheim Union High School District’s redesign journey is widely cited as one of the most ambitious and coherent secondary‑school transformations in California. At its core, AUHSD has spent the past decade moving from a traditional, test‑driven factory model toward deeper learning, community‑connected pathways, and whole‑child supports — all anchored in shared purpose and systemwide coherence. The district created a large cross‑sector partnership connecting colleges, health and social agencies, businesses, and community organizations — redefining the boundaries of learning beyond the school building.
